Learn the Differences, Advantages, and Disadvantages of Bitcoin and Ethereum

Bitcoin vs Ethereum Chart

Naturally, one of the main concerns of the general public, particularly when it comes to cryptocurrency investing, is pricing. BTC vs. ETH has always been exciting to watch, but Bitcoin has consistently outperformed Ethereum.

To begin, it’s worth noting that Bitcoin has been on the market for longer than Ethereum. The former was introduced in October 2008, while the latter was introduced in 2015.

Bitcoin reached a high of around $20,000 in early January 2018. A historic price rally culminated throughout 2017 and especially near the end. BTC was trading at around $900 at the start of 2017, increasing its value more than 20 times by the end of the year.

ETH had a remarkable 2017, peaking at around $1,400 after beginning the year at only $10. This represented a 140x increase, which was far greater than Bitcoin’s price increase.

However, 2018 has been a lot less kind to cryptocurrency investors and has shifted the BTC vs. ETH comparison to a new level. If 2017 was about which currency gained the most, 2018 is about which currency lost the most.

Bitcoin’s price has dropped by roughly 70% since its all-time high, and it is now trading at around $4,280. On the other hand, ETH has been completely destroyed, with the cryptocurrency currently trading at around $120, which is more than 90% lower than its peak. Ripple has surpassed Ethereum as the second-largest cryptocurrency (XRP).
