Learn About Pros and Cons of Dental Veneers

Flossing will not remove your veneers; nonetheless, it is critical to floss around them on a regular basis to prevent any weakening or decay in the tooth behind your veneer (since veneers only cover the front of your smile.)

Because veneers are permanent, there is no need to bleach your teeth at any stage. Simply minimize your intake of coffee, tea, red wine, or other dark liquids (which can produce staining on top of your dental work—don’t worry, your hygienist can polish it off) and have your teeth cleaned on a regular basis.

After drinking something dark, such as tea, thoroughly rinse your mouth with water. Consider drinking using a straw to reduce the amount of time your veneers are in touch with.

Cons of Dental Veneers:

Are there any drawbacks to using dental veneers? Yes, depending on your point of view. Here are a few of the “cons” you should think about before investing in a smile makeover.

Dental veneers are not impervious to damage.

Although porcelain veneers are incredibly durable, they are not indestructible. The porcelain may fracture if you clench and grind your teeth. And even if it works, it is technically impossible to patch over and restore that little region of damage; the entire tooth veneer would have to be replaced.

Fortunately, you have a mouthguard to assist in protecting them. Sleeping in a tailored night guard provides the most protection. That way, if you clench your teeth so much that the guard wears out, you can simply replace it (instead of paying for new veneers.)

Make sure you’re not biting your nails or opening goods with your teeth. The end-to-end biting action can damage dental veneers and is a typical mistake.

Some teeth are untreatable.

Unfortunately, some teeth are not candidates for dental veneers. Because veneers are merely cosmetic, they cannot be used on teeth with major cavities or substantial fractures.

To support a cosmetic veneer, your teeth must be structurally sound. Similarly, if you have gum disease around the tooth to be repaired, we will be unable to install a veneer on it.
